Yom Kippur - He's Got You Covered - Charles D Harris

Day of Atonement - Yom Kippur

Let’s look at Day of Atonement from the perspective of the cross.  We want to have revelation not just information.

Hebrews 9
[Hbr 9:1-12  KJV] 1 Then verily the first [covenant] had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. 2 For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein [was] the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. 3 And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; 4 Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein [was] the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; 5 And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercy seat; of which we cannot now speak particularly. 6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service [of God]. 7 But into the second [went] the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and [for] the errors of the people: 8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing: 9 Which [was] a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience; 10 [Which stood] only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed [on them] until the time of reformation. 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption [for us].

The word translated  redemption is actually the word atonement. i.e., He obtained “atonement” once and for all.  We need to understand what atonement is because we are atoned for and for a lot of us we don't really know what that means  We may have a vague concept of it but not a reality.  The Day of Atonement is a powerful process we should wake up to.

IN Hebrew the word for atonement comes from root Kafar.  Kafar literally means to cover something.  Even before it was meant to cover something it was actual word for a substance, and the substance is pitch

Pitch’s first use in the bible is Gen 6  - Judgement / Covenant
[Gen 6:13-22 KJV] 13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. 15 And this [is the fashion] which thou shalt make it [of]: The length of the ark [shall be] three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. 16 A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; [with] lower, second, and third [stories] shalt thou make it. 17 And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein [is] the breath of life, from under heaven; [and] every thing that [is] in the earth shall die. 18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every [sort] shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep [them] alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 20 Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every [sort] shall come unto thee, to keep [them] alive. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather [it] to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. 22 Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

כָּפַר Kafar  to cover, purge, make an atonement, make reconciliation, cover over with pitch

We see judgement coming to the earth in the form of massive quantities of water (Maktesh).  We see massive judgement comes upon the earth and we see this group of animals and people that are protected from the judgement.  What protects them from the water?  Kafar (pitch). There are other boats in the time however none knew they would have to withstand such massive amounts of water except the Lord. He covered inside and out with Kafar.  No way for water to get in.  He protected internally and externally from the water with the pitch.

Get the spiritual picture here.  You have judgement all around you and you are covered with atonement. And it is impossible for the judgement to enter in. because you have the substance that keeps it out.  Hebrew goes from the concrete to the abstract.  English goes from the abstract to the concrete.  Kafar first existed as a substance.  Before it had a spiritual reality it had a practical reality.  The practical reality was applied in a spiritual context and brought about a spiritual reality.

The cross was about pitch.
Noah is about to set the framework for salvation.  Whatever substance he uses is going to be the framework root of all salvation. So when he puts pitch on the boat, he is covering the boat with the same force thats gonna cover you. That is what’s defined as covenant.  Before an animal is kill before a drop of blood is shed, pitch defines covenant. See how practical God is.  He lives and creates reality.  Pitch not only keeps judgement out, it keeps God in

Another way to look at it as insulation.  Insulation allows power to flow through the wires
Pitch allowed great power to move inside that ship.

All of this is a revelation of the son of God who was slain before the foundation of the world.
Colossians 1:13-17 KJV 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Lets look at another dimension of this atonement...
Exodus 21:29 NET 29 But if the ox had the habit of goring, and its owner was warned, and he did not take the necessary precautions, and then it killed a man or a woman, the ox must be stoned and the man must be put to death. 30 If a ransom is set for him, then he must pay the redemption for his life according to whatever amount was set for him. 31 If the ox gores a son or a daughter, the owner will be dealt with according to this rule.

First we had pitch. Now atonement also can make up for something you did wrong (mercy from owner).  Because of mercy a price can be paid. God was going to have mercy so he put provision.   When price is paid sin can be released.
Exodus 30:11-16 NET 11 The LORD spoke to Moses: 12 “When you take a census of the Israelites according to their number, then each man is to pay a ransom for his life to the LORD when you number them, so that there will be no plague among them when you number them. 13 Everyone who crosses over to those who are numbered is to pay this: a half shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (a shekel weighs twenty gerahs). The half shekel is to be an offering to the LORD. 14 Everyone who crosses over to those numbered, from twenty years old and up, is to pay an offering to the LORD. 15 The rich are not to increase it, and the poor are not to pay less than the half shekel when giving the offering of the LORD, to make atonement for your lives. 16 You are to receive the atonement money from the Israelites and give it for the service of the tent of meeting. It will be a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD, to make atonement for your lives.”

Now atonement has extended beyond individual who has done something wrong to atone for an entire community. Rich shall not give more or poor less. Atonement transcends status. Jesus dealt with status and favoritism. Everyone can be covered and can participate.
Can you see how this is working its way to the cross.
Let's look at Yom Kippur itself.
Leviticus 23:26-32 26 The LORD spoke to Moses: 27 “The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It is to be a holy assembly for you, and you must humble yourselves and present a gift to the LORD. 28 You must not do any work on this particular day, because it is a day of atonement to make atonement for yourselves before the LORD your God. 29 Indeed, any person who does not behave with humility on this particular day will be cut off from his people. 30 As for any person who does any work on this particular day, I will exterminate that person from the midst of his people! 31 You must not do any work. This is a perpetual statute throughout your generations in all the places where you live. 32 It is a Sabbath of complete rest for you, and you must humble yourselves on the ninth day of the month in the evening, from evening until evening you must observe your Sabbath.”

Now we see a national covering.  We have Insulation/power/a ransom paid. We can see looking back from the cross that God's part is making covenant.

What is the people’s part?
Lev 16:1-22 NET 1 The LORD spoke to Moses after the death of Aaron’s two sons when they approached the presence of the LORD and died, 2 and the LORD said to Moses: “Tell Aaron your brother that he must not enter at any time into the holy place inside the veil-canopy in front of the atonement plate that is on the ark so that he may not die, for I will appear in the cloud over the atonement plate.  3 “In this way Aaron is to enter into the sanctuary – with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. 4 He must put on a holy linen tunic, linen leggings are to cover his body, and he is to wrap himself with a linen sash and wrap his head with a linen turban. They are holy garments, so he must bathe his body in water and put them on. 5 He must also take two male goats from the congregation of the Israelites for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt offering. 6 Then Aaron is to present the sin offering bull which is for himself and is to make atonement on behalf of himself and his household. 7 He must then take the two goats and stand them before the LORD at the entrance of the Meeting Tent, 8 and Aaron is to cast lots over the two goats, one lot for the LORD and one lot for Azazel. 9 Aaron must then present the goat which has been designated by lot for the LORD, and he is to make it a sin offering, 10 but the goat which has been designated by lot for Azazel is to be stood alive before the LORD to make atonement on it by sending it away to Azazel into the wilderness.  11 “Aaron is to present the sin offering bull which is for himself, and he is to make atonement on behalf of himself and his household. He is to slaughter the sin offering bull which is for himself, 12 and take a censer full of coals of fire from the altar before the LORD and a full double handful of finely ground fragrant incense, and bring them inside the veil-canopy. 13 He must then put the incense on the fire before the LORD, and the cloud of incense will cover the atonement plate which is above the ark of the testimony, so that he will not die. 14 Then he is to take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the eastern face of the atonement plate, and in front of the atonement plate he is to sprinkle some of the blood seven times with his finger.  15 “He must then slaughter the sin offering goat which is for the people. He is to bring its blood inside the veil-canopy, and he is to do with its blood just as he did to the blood of the bull: He is to sprinkle it on the atonement plate and in front of the atonement plate. 16 So he is to make atonement for the holy place from the impurities of the Israelites and from their transgressions with regard to all their sins, and thus he is to do for the Meeting Tent which resides with them in the midst of their impurities. 17 Nobody is to be in the Meeting Tent when he enters to make atonement in the holy place until he goes out, and he has made atonement on his behalf, on behalf of his household, and on behalf of the whole assembly of Israel.  18 “Then he is to go out to the altar which is before the LORD and make atonement for it. He is to take some of the blood of the bull and some of the blood of the goat, and put it all around on the horns of the altar. 19 Then he is to sprinkle on it some of the blood with his finger seven times, and cleanse and consecrate it from the impurities of the Israelites.  20 “When he has finished purifying the holy place, the Meeting Tent, and the altar, he is to present the live goat. 21 Aaron is to lay his two hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the iniquities of the Israelites and all their transgressions in regard to all their sins, and thus he is to put them on the head of the goat and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man standing ready. 22 The goat is to bear on itself all their iniquities into an inaccessible land, so he is to send the goat away in the wilderness.

The high priest takes an offering from all the people.  There are 2 goats - one goes in flames which is blood offering for sin. The other is the scape goat.
Blood is now the pitch covering the altar and the people. Blood is also the ransom or atonement. To get the sins out of the people. Lay hands if the goat confess sins, send goat out of the camp. This is kafar for Aaron, kafar for the people.

Can you see the cross?  He is developing the picture of Messiah.
Humble yourself and keep Sabbath
When we go back to Leviticus 23 where it tells us to keep the feasts these are the two pieces left. Some translations have afflict your souls. Most people take that to mean fast. Humbling is bigger than fasting.  The Hebrew word is   עָנָה `anah
Strongs H6031 KJV: abase self, afflict(-ion, self), chasten self, deal hardly with, defile, exercise, force, gentleness, humble (self), hurt, ravish, submit self, weaken, X in any wise.

Humbling in Hebrew means literally is to lose yourself in another. For example when we are in communication and someone is sharing their heart   Humbling yourself would be to receive conversation. Pride would be to think about what you are going to say so your can sound smart when he is talking. Humility is openness, nothing between us. I'm secure in who I am so I can receive who you are. Some afflict themselves through self loathing and try to fast their way out of it. But if I “loose myself in another”  fasting is a way to quiet my flesh and enable me to get there

Yeshua enables me to enter rest for my soul as my high priest.
Heb 4 NET 1 Therefore we must be wary that, while the promise of entering his rest remains open, none of you may seem to have come short of it. 2 For we had good news proclaimed to us just as they did. But the message they heard did them no good, since they did not join in with those who heard it in faith. 3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, “As I swore in my anger, ‘They will never enter my rest!’” And yet God’s works were accomplished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he has spoken somewhere about the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works,” 5 but to repeat the text cited earlier: “They will never enter my rest!” 6 Therefore it remains for some to enter it, yet those to whom it was previously proclaimed did not enter because of disobedience. 7 So God again ordains a certain day, “Today,” speaking through David after so long a time, as in the words quoted before, “O, that today you would listen as he speaks! Do not harden your hearts.” 8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken afterward about another day. 9 Consequently a Sabbath rest remains for the people of God. 10 For the one who enters God’s rest has also rested from his works, just as God did from his own works. 11 Thus we must make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by following the same pattern of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints from marrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from God, but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account.  14 Therefore since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin. 16 Therefore let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find grace whenever we need help.

Dealing with revealed sin….our high priest helps purify us
1 John 1:6-9 NET 6 If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness.

By deal with and obtaining His rest then I can pour myself into another because I know who I am in Him.

So when we get to this Feast which is about the insulation, which is about the reconciliation, which is about all these things and The Lord tells us to humble ourselves.... Yes we should fast not because we want to afflict ourselves, but because we want to focus ourselves.  We want to listen to him. We want to have nothing between us. We want to be at ONE with him and insulated from the world. We want to be in the atonement. We aren't going to get more "saved" we are going to get more real. People are saved into unreality living to just going to heaven. People are counting on you to be present. The other piece is sabbath. Being with The Lord. Sabbath was created for man so man could be with God.
So we have humility which is about transparency with The Lord, Sabbath about being with The Lord, the atonement to bring oneness and protect that. That's Yom Kippur!
How can we walk in Yom Kippur today - Loosen the burden, set free the captive...
Isa 58 KJV 1Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. 2Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to God.  3Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours. 4Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high. 5Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD? 6Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 7Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?  8Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward. 9Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; 10And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: 11And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. 12And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.  13If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
We can't just say Jesus forgive me of my sins and just wait to go to heaven. I have the reality of the insulation and the pitch to walk with a heart of thanksgiving. It’s like in a relay race and I have placed a particular marker and the job is to pass the baton. I have to have that place of intercession and passing the baton reaching out to others
We have to live in the atonement
Matt 25:31-46  31When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. 41Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: 42For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: 43I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. 44Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? 45Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. 46And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Intercession
Daniel’s prayer an example of humility…
Daniel 9:4-10 4 I prayed to the LORD my God, confessing in this way: “O Lord, great and awesome God who is faithful to his covenant with those who love him and keep his commandments, 5 we have sinned! We have done what is wrong and wicked; we have rebelled by turning away from your commandments and standards. 6 We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, and to all the inhabitants of the land as well.  7 “You are righteous, O Lord, but we are humiliated this day – the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, both near and far away in all the countries in which you have scattered them, because they have behaved unfaithfully toward you. 8 O LORD, we have been humiliated – our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors – because we have sinned against you. 9 Yet the Lord our God is compassionate and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him. 10 We have not obeyed the LORD our God by living according to his laws that he set before us through his servants the prophets.

Daniel did not pray with an individual agenda but considered the behavior of his brethren his own and identified himself with them.  That is focus and humility

Paul had a similar heart for his brethren
Rom 9 NET 1 I am telling the truth in Christ (I am not lying!), for my conscience assures me in the Holy Spirit – 2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed – cut off from Christ – for the sake of my people, my fellow countrymen, 4 who are Israelites. To them belong the adoption as sons, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the temple worship, and the promises. 5 To them belong the patriarchs, and from them, by human descent, came the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever! Amen.

This is the heart of Yom Kippur!

Yom Teruah, 2013 - David Mitts

All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You. (Psalms 22:27 NKJV)

Remembering.  This is a key to entering into the Presence of the Lord.  Yom Teruah, or as it is better known today, Rosh Hashanah is the beginning of something new.  We love new things, new beginnings, and new possibilities.  The 7th month is set apart as a Holy month in the calendar of the bible, God’s calendar.  Leviticus 23, announces the Lord’s Feasts and in verse 23-25 we see this command:
Again the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. 'You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD.'" (Leviticus 23:23-25 NASB)
This is a rest, a reminder and a holy convocation.  It is a Shabbat but in this Shabbat there is a command to bring a fire offering.  Normally Shabbat is rest without fire.
"You shall not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day." (Exodus 35:3 NASB)

This Day of Blowing comes with Fire.  We know that some of this type of day occurred on Shavuot in the Book of Acts, which was the last spring feast.
When the day of Pentecost(Shavuot)  had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance. Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. (Acts 2:1-6 NASB)

Now, you can see the imagery of Yom Teruah in the Shavuot outpouring.  The blowing, Teruah from heaven which fills the whole house.  Then, we see the tongues of fire, the consuming fire of heaven, and the filling of the earthen vessels with the Holy Spirit of God.  The result is a unity throughout the whole house of Israel.  Now, you might think, “what does this have to do with Yom Teruah?”.  We ask this question because we are embedded in a Greek culture, with a Greek linear time reference.  In fact. Most our end-time eschatology is Greek oriented.  BUT, Yeshua was a Hebrew Messiah.   He spoke into and out of a Hebrew context.  Times and seasons in a Hebrew context are not linear but circular or cyclical.

Meeting with God is NOT about calendars and calculations but about ebb and flow of prophetic realities!  If we back up to Acts 1, we see:
To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. (Acts 1:3-11)

40 days is a complete cycle or season of time.  40 days is a time of preparation and instruction.  Israel was in the widerness 40 years.  Moses on the mountain, 40 days.  Yeshua in the wilderness 40 days.  It isn’t so important the calendar counting of the number 40 but the season of preparation.  Here Yeshua is preparing His disciples, personally.  Then, they must wait 10 days in Jerusalem.  This correlates with the number of fullness of time.  Ten commandments, 10 days between Yom Teruah and Yom kippur.  So, 10 days waiting is a picture of completion of time.  So, they being Hebrews understand this and ask the fullness of time question, the Kingdom restoration.
Yeshua answers what?  It is not for you to know… what?  The times or the seasons, based on what ??  The POWER of the Father.  You see times and seasons are NOT about about chronological events but about the manifestation of the Father’s power.  Yeshua was born by that power.  He was raised from the dead by that power.  He ascended by that power. AND He is returning BY THAT POWER!

The disciples need that power, which they receive at Shavuot which releases them to be witnesses of the returning King.  Then Yeshua is taken up to heven in a cloud and the angel declares prophetically that His return will be in the same fashion.  Now the the picture is complete, He returns on a cloud with a shofar blowing, the same fashion with fire and glory which brings unity.  As He went out in the season of the Father’s power of Shavuot, He returns in season the Father’s power of Yom Teruah. Look at 1 Thess 4:15-5:3 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-5:3)

The Apostle Paul expected his disciples to understand times and seasons and their importance.  I don’t think he dreamed of the greek and roman dominated church we have today.  Prophetic time has been replaced by event time, or worldly time.  The result of this is insensitive Believers who do not sense Shabbat or the Feasts.

You can train the spiritual out of people.  This results in a spiritual dullness. Math 13:14-16:
"In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says, 'YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND; YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE; FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL, WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES, OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.' "But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. (Matthew 13:14-16)

If we look at Isaiah 6 where this prophecy comes from, we see that what precipitated it was a turn from biblical worship to Samarian worship, a change of times and seasons.  When we meet the Lord on our schedule, we corrupt the anointing which is sensitized in our being by honoring the Feasts.  Many corrupt signs and wonders occur in the last days because of a disregard for God’s calendar.

So, here we are, Yom Teruah.  This is the Day of the Lord.  That is a bible study in itself.  For today and this year, I want to focus on the concept of remembering.  Yom Teruah is a “shabbaton zicharon”.  This means it is a high Sabbath of Remembering.  To remember is zachar.  This is also the word for male.  God’s image is zachar and nekevah.  Male and female is His image.  To remember is the male aspect of God.  This is connected to the seed which is the male deposited in the female.  It carries the lineage.  Yeshua was born of the seed of the Father, so He is His Son.  In this place He is the carrier of the promise, the hope of Glory!  When we become born again that same seed is implanted in our spirit.  Thus we become children of God.  We carry His testimony in our recreated Spirit.

There is a special connection between remembering and identity.  How we remember someone is who they are to us.  If we remember someone a particular way, they are that way to us and we treat them that way.  Yeshua could perform limited miracles in Nazareth because they remembered Him as the child who grew up there.  This is power of judgment rooted in past experience usually of the flesh.  This corrupts the incorruptible.
Instead of the hope of Glory, Christ within us, we become known by the flesh.

This is why Phillipians 4 admnoishes us:
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:8-9).
The Apostle Paul taught His disciples to know one another out of the promise, the deposit of the Holy Spirit.  You see the 7th month is about the return of the Lord.  It is about entering into the Kingdom.  We need a beginner’s mind, what Yeshua called the  qualities of a child.  A child knows no one out of the past but is in a state of discovery.

Remembering is a key!   The is a Feast of Remembering.  We remember to enter into freedom.  We have a disease called Alzheimers.  It affects our remembering.  We lose our “knowing” of those in our lives.  Identity is shaped by memory.  Yeshua is instituting what we commonly call communion said this:
And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me." And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood. (Luke 22:19-20).

Communion is about remembering.  It establishes who He is in our lives, the giver of His body and His blood for us, a covenant gift.  When giving the Holy Spirit, Yeshua spoke of it this way:
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. (John 14:26).  The Holy Spirit is an agent of remembrance!

So, these Feasts become places where we remember, where the identity of God is given a witness and in the witness, power is released unto the witnesses.  Shavuot-Pentecost was about empowering witnesses of the inner Torah, the writing of the finger of God on the hearts of man.

Yom teruah is about witnessing to the arrival of the King.  When we remember the Feast, we relase the authority of the King, His ruling and reigning power into our lives.  This is all affected by our remembering.
What blocks memory is pain, hurt, or betrayal.  The enemy uses the pain to insert defective programming, lies masquerading as memory.  When we think of the person, all we remember is the hurt, the pain because of the lie.  So it is with God.  Soon he becomes a distant memory and we lose our knowing of Him, a spiritual alzheimers.  This is the season of healing of memories in preparation for the arrival of the King, that we may know Him as He truly is.
To do this we need release from false memories that bind us.

Restorative Prayer of Agreement - Charles D. Harris

" Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much." James 5:16 NASB

As believers we must remember the power we have to bring forth the Kingdom of God into the earth when we come into agreement with what He has already finished.  Our righteousness is credited through faith in God and his Word not our own "self" righteousness through dead works.

Also, when we come together in unity of purpose according to His will nothing shall be impossible.

Training the Heart- It’s all about the Glory - David Mitts

So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? (Galatians 3:5)

We are living in the day of miracles!  We however need to learn how to train our heart to experience the miracles.  The above verse teaches us that miracles occur by the hearing of faith.  How does our faith hear?

Well we quote back, So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
(Romans 10:17)

The question becomes, how do we hear the Word of Christ or the Word of Messiah?  You see we have made assumptions when we read or hear the Scriptures.  What we rarely do is test our assumptions.

Charles shared last week about the desert of testing.  In the desert, the Lord gets our attention to humble us and teach us how to hear His voice:

"All the commandments that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to give to your forefathers. "You shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you, testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. "He humbled you and let you be hungry, and fed you with manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you understand that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD. (Deuteronomy 8:1-3)

The Lord will do whatever is necessary to bring about humility and repentance, so we may fulfill our destiny, walking into our inheritance.  In the dessert, He taught Israel through hunger and through heavenly provision in the form of manna to develop an intimacy with His Spirit.  Hunger tunes our spiritual senses to the flavor of provision.  Fasting is about, at least in part an increase of our sensitivity to God and His Presence or Glory.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
(Matthew 5:6)

What are we filled with when we thirst and hunger after righteousness?  With Him who is our righteousness.

But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, (1 Corinthians 1:30)

So the hunger and thirst is ALL about Him and His Glory!  Now why is this important?  BECAUSE WITHOUT HIS GLORY, HIS MANIFEST PRESENCE, we will have a form of godliness without the power!  This is the seduction of religion in the last days!

But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

We need the reality of His Glory for our faith to be effective.  In order for our faith to be effective, we need Him in our faith!  Faith comes by hearing but hearing comes through Him!  This is why Yeshua emphasized that hearing determines everything.  Hearing, shma is everything!  We need to know when He is in the camp, listen and act!

Turn with me to Mark 4:14:

"The sower sows the word. "These are the ones who are beside the road where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them. "In a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; and they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away. "And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word, but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. "And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold." And He was saying to them, "A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on the lampstand? "For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. "If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear." And He was saying to them, "Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. (Mark 4:14-24)

This is a teaching on relationship, on hearing.  Our hearts need to know His voice by His Presence.  He takes into dessert places in our lives, so we will be hungry and thirsty for His Presence.  We, like Israel are addicted to garlic and leeks.  Our appetite is adjusted to the flavors of the world.  We crave what we have been eating.  Our addictions come from our experiences.  God is bringing us to a place of new hunger and new thirst!  For Him!  He is the true food and the true drink that we need, but as long as we are eating the junk food of the world we will live in the junk food results!  Religion without power.  We need to fast and pray for His taste to become our desire!

God has already built hunger into our being.  There is nothing wring with hunger or thirst or any desire He created us with.  The problem is when we try to fulfill our desire with tastes from this world.  When we draw neat to Him, then His Glory fills our being and we taste of His goodness.  In this place, we come into oneness with Him and His Glory is manifested.

Yeshua was always meeting the desires of people.  He never rebuked their desires.  In fact, He eagerly meet their desires, whether it was food for 5000, healing for the untouchables, or resurrection for Lazarus.  The key was the Glory.  So, His final prayer was for us to receive His Glory!  Look at John 17:22

"The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. "Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. (John 17:22-24)

The glory Yeshua is speaking of is His Presence.  He is calling us to receive His Presence, but we only will if we are hungry and thirsty for Him to make our faith real.  Then we will see miracles in our lives.  It isnt by just knowing the Scriptures that apply but by receiving Him, His Glory into our lives and in that place of unity, oneness with Him, miracles will occur as we speak them forth!

Entering God's Rest Through the Desert of Testing - Charles D Harris

"Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
“So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”
And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world.  For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.”  And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”
Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience,  God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:
“Today, if you hear his voice,
    do not harden your hearts.”

For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.  There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God;  for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience." Hebrews 4:1-16 NIV

How can someone tell what is going on in your heart?  Your actions and words that come out.
"A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of."

Your heart condition is a key component in entering into His rest.

The Lord wants YOU to know what is in your heart and wants your heart to be trained in His righteousness.  “The whole commandment that I command you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers. And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." (Deuteronomy 8:1-3 ESV)

Note:  Included in this teaching is testimony of prayer of faith that Honduras would be dedicated back to the Lord.  It just so happened that today July 20 is the prayer of dedication.

The Key of Joy in Training the Heart - David Mitts

Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem. (Zephaniah 3:14)

Our hearts need to be trained in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17 (NASB)

We have a tendency to think of the Kingdom of God as a condition of our behaviors or who we associate with, the church we go to.  The Apostle Paul is making a distinction in this scripture between "eating and drinking" or behavior management versus righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

A little word which is usually overlooked as significant is the word “in”.  “In” in this verse is the Greek word “EN” which is contrasted with other prepositions “eis” or “ek” which mean into or out from.  En means to be in a place.  In this context, it means to be “in” the place of the Holy Spirit.  This is a place of unity with the Spirit that comes from drinking and eating of the Spirit.  This is a place of communion, of oneness.

The principle command of God begins with oneness.  Mark 12:28-

One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, "What commandment is the foremost of all?" Jesus answered, "The foremost is, 'HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.' "The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:28-31).

The original Hebrew that is being quoted by Jesus is Deuteronomy 6:4:
(Deuteronomy 6:4)  שְׁמַ֖ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ יְהוָ֥ה׀ אֶחָֽד׃

The command begins with Sh’ma.  We translate this word as hear or listen, or if we know a little more Hebrew, we know it implies obedience, a true act of listening.  But the word is even deeper.  It literally means, “to listen with the breath”.  This is an act of matching breathing rhythm.  In NLP, the study of using body language patterns and cues to come into rapport with another, matching breathing rhythms is a way of coming into oneness with another.  So when we look at the scripture in this deeper Hebraic world view, we that it means to be in such an intimacy with God that His breath becomes our breath.  In that place covenant is occurring, oneness.

God’s Spirit is His breath, His rhythm.  Take a minute, now and tune-in to His breath with your breath.  Open your spirit, release fear and anxiousness and allow yourself to sh’ma, to listen with your breath.

You see oneness is more about opening our heart to Him than about anything else.

In this place, there is righteousness, peace and joy.  Righteousness is first expressed in scripture as the credit that Abraham received when He trusted God’s prophetic declaration, when He sh’ma-ed the Lord.

Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. (Genesis 15:6).

The word believed is from the root “amen”.  This Hebrew word is made up of the three letters ALEPH, Mem, and NUN.  Mem means water or liquid such a blood.  Nun means seed and Aleph means strength of the Father.  So, in this scripture the Father is imparting to Abram, the fatherless one, His strength to be the Father of many.  Look upwards a few verses here in Genesis 15:1-5:

After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not fear, Abram, I am a shield to you; Your reward shall be very great." Abram said, "O Lord GOD, what will You give me, since I am childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" And Abram said, "Since You have given no offspring to me, one born in my house is my heir." Then behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "This man will not be your heir; but one who will come forth from your own body, he shall be your heir." And He took him outside and said, "Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them." And He said to him, "So shall your descendants be." (Genesis 15:1-5).

Ok, first of all “who” came to Abram?  The “word” of the Lord.  We know from John 1, that the word of the Lord is Jesus, Yeshua, the Son of God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. (John 1:1-3)

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

So, the “word of the Lord” came to Abram in a vision and spoke.  “Do not fear, I am a shield to you, your reward shall be great”.  Abram was near the end of his life and the only reward that mattered to him was a legacy, an inheritance.

The creative “word” of God speaks a Holy seed which will come from Abram’s own body into Sarah’s womb.  The Word takes Abram outside and shows him the stars and states “so shall your inheritance be”.
Then, the verse that is the basis of our sonship is written:

Then he believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness.
(Genesis 15:6)

The Word of God, the breath of the Father in spoken form, the Son, is received face to face, breath to breath, spirit to spirit, and the strength of the Father, the Amen, is manifested and this produces righteousness.

In other words, we could say that righteousness is really oneness with the breath of God.  When our spirit comes into unity with His Spirit, then the description of that is righteousness.  We are in harmony with Him.  Look at Galatians 3:6-9:

Even so Abraham BELIEVED GOD, AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS. Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "ALL THE NATIONS WILL BE BLESSED IN YOU." So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer. (Galatians 3:6-9)

You see, Abraham who was a fatherless father, received the strength of the blood-power to become the Father of “Am”, nations or peoples, the seed of sonship, and when we receive the Son, we receive that same seed and so we become sons of Abraham.  There is no people of God apart from the sonship seed, the strength of the Father.  When we become born again, we sh’ma, we listen with our breath, our spirit to the Holy Breath, the Holy Spirit and become ONE with Him.  This is righteousness, unity breath to breath, face to face, heart to heart.

Now, through the sh’ma, we get a glimpse of what it means that faith comes by hearing.  The Amen comes through the sh’ma.  The strength of the Father comes into our lives, His promises, His decrees over us, His destiny for us, comes about when we listen with our breath.  Our spirit matches His Spirit and we are in unity.  The question then becomes, “how do we listen with our breath?”
