Living in His Righteousness and Peace - Charles D Harris

For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." Rom 10:11 NKJV

What if there was a way to orient your heart so you lived a righteous and peaceful life?  His standard for living our life is righteousness and peace.

Shame has entered our world through an act of disobedience causing us to continue to try to "cover our nakedness" to appear righteous.  We are trying to ascribe to righteousness however it takes the form of self-righteousness which never brings peace.

Behavior modification, doing the right things, perfection, control, etc brings a form of righteousness in my eyes however there is no peace.  There is worry.  God’s standard is for us to walk in His standard of righteousness and peace.

Peace is the Hebrew word Shalom

שָׁלוֹם

Shin שָׁ - Destroying, devouring
Lamed לַ – Authority, controlling, instructing
Vav וֹ - and, nail, hook
Mem ם - Water, chaos

The picture is destroying authority that causes chaos.

So when people are greeted with "Shalom" it is a declaration of destroying a wall of separation and chaos operating in their lives.

Self-righteousness is like the using a fig leaf trying to cover the shame, anxiety, etc however does not bring about Shalom.  Some examples are “I need to get over myself and serve somebody", minister, do good deeds, etc.  These efforts do not bring peace because I am not dealing with root issue. This causes me to perform with wrong motives doing it in worry without my soul being at peace.

Rom 10:3 KJV - 3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Righteousness being a foundation of His throne means whatever God declares right is right.  David taught last week that when God looks at you He gives thumbs up saying, you are OK in His book because of the blood of Yeshua. We were made righteous at the cross, however we need to appropriated His righteousness through abiding in His Word and meditating on His Word until our heart believes His word.

If I don’t feel I am righteous in God’s sight that causes our souls not to be at peace thrusting us into the kingdom of worry.  Soul is mind, will, emotions.  They are not in the state of Shalom.  Your mind, will and emotions are tremoring in a state of chaos.

Eph 2:14-16 NKJV - 14 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, [that is], the law of commandments [contained] in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man [from] the two, [thus] making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

In Genesis 13 & 14 we see a picture of A promise, a skirmish, a declaration of allegiance

Promise of inheritance
Gen 13:14-15 NKJV - 14 And the LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: "Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are--northward, southward, eastward, and westward; 15 "for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.

Skirmish
Gen 14:1 - 15 we read of a battle of kings which is a stirring of chaos that sweeps away Lot and his household.  Abram goes after Lot, defeats kings and returns.

Declaration
Abram  is victorious and is met by Melchizedek and makes a declaration of allegiance of his heart to the eternal King of Righteousness and Peace versus King of slavery and self righteousness

Gen 14:16-23 NKJV - 16 So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people. 17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that [is], the King's Valley), after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who [were] with him. 18 Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he [was] the priest of God Most High. 19 And he blessed him and said: "Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand." And he gave him a tithe of all.  21 Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself." 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, 23 "that I [will take] nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that [is] yours, lest you should say, 'I have made Abram rich'--

King of Sodom wants to make a deal with Abram about self-righteousness and self-indulgences and self-gratification

Jesus said seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness
Mat 6:33 NKJV - 33 "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

He is the Prince of Peace and is in the order of Melchizedek

Hbr 5:6-14 KJV - 6 As he saith also in another [place], Thou [art] a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. 7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; 8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; 10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchizedek. 11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13 For every one that useth milk [is] unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Scripture says Abraham believed God and was credited with righteousness.
Gal 3:6, 9, 11, 13-14 KJV - 6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. ... 9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. ... 11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just shall live by faith. ... 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Legally doing the law is not faith and promotes self – righteousness, no peace.  The righteousness of faith says.

Rom 10:2-13 NASB - 2 For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not in accordance with knowledge. 3 For not knowing about God's righteousness and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. 5 For Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on law shall live by that righteousness. 6 But the righteousness based on faith speaks as follows: "DO NOT SAY IN YOUR HEART, 'WHO WILL ASCEND INTO HEAVEN?' (that is, to bring Christ down), 7 or 'WHO WILL DESCEND INTO THE ABYSS?' (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead)." 8 But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

This week's activation - Ask the Lord, "How can I tangibly declare my heart alignment with King of Righteousness and Shalom in Yeshua?"  Then do it!

SHALOM
